Re: where in Sweden were you referring to?
Sun, September 5, 2004 - 3:35 PMLund is in the South of Sweden in the Skåne provence. It is an hour train ride from Copenhaegen, Denmark. It is a small town with medievel architecture that hosts a student population of 30,000 out of a total 100,000. I am studying at the International Institute for Industrial Environmental Economics (IIIEE) in an international masters program with 30 students from 20 countries. I am researching the application of the energy service company concept (ESCO) here in Sweden and in Lund....procrastinating at the moment.
Kristiana (correct spelling?), in nearby Copenhaegen, is a very interesting case study in urban design. An abandoned military complex taken over by hippies in the 70s who briefly paid rent and then stopped paying...evolved or perhaps devolved into 2 factions of drug pushers and "normal people" loosing some of the hippie element....it is still around, despite some recent crackdowns by the newly elected conservative Dannish government (yes, even in Scandinavia)...quite interesting in that it is within walking distance from the center of the city is of quite the alternative look and feel with much greenspace and interesting architecture.
cheers,
